I had the most amazing time on my trip to Lisbon. I joined a group of college students from London who were all so friendly and welcoming. I have made friends for life.
I was placed in a lovely restaurant where I worked 6 and a half hours, 5 days a week. It was daunting at first as I spoke very little Portuguese and had never worked in this setting before. However, I was still able to complete all my responsibilities despite the language barrier. I picked up a lot of Portuguese on the way: I learned to translate the entire menu. As well as this, the staff were helpful and made the experience so much fun. One of my favourite colleagues spoke very little English but we basically came up by with our own way of communicating! On one of my last days, my work colleagues took me out to discover Lisbon’s infamous night life. It was so much fun. I made friends with people that didn’t speak any English at all.
We were provided with money for transport, trips out and free accommodation. I particularly loved the day when everyone went to play crazy golf together. The accommodation was comfortable, in a great location and the staff there were friendly too.
I already miss everyone involved and have planned to return to Lisbon in the Summer. I am so grateful for this experience.
“I feel like I gained a lot of self confidence and met friends for life. In regards to the nursery, learnt a lot about their cultures, foods as well as their language. I have gained a lot more confidence within the nursery setting as well as I was made to lead the children and activities.”
“It has made me appreciate my setting and the extensive rules we have however it has also made me realise that we can be too restrictive in the UK.”
On the 18th March we welcomed over 30 students from CONEL College, the largest college group in London.
The students are working for 3 weeks in a variety of work placements in sunny Sevilla. Including Travel and Tourism and Hospitality.
These roles provide our students with opportunities to respond to the skills needed by our local communities and employers in Sevilla and also help inspire the students, build up their confidence and prepare them for working in these industries.
During their stay, they have been working with their placements as well as, soaking up the culture of Sevilla by attending multiple activities and navigating different parts of the city.
Over the three weeks, their adventures included visiting Las Setas where they could get an amazing 360 angle view of the city. They visited the incredible Real Alcázar, enjoyed some bowling and experienced the wonderful and traditional taste of Paella and Flamenco dancing.
They’ve had a very busy schedule over the 3 weeks, jam-packed with amazing adventures and also including some Spanish lessons where they attended weekly classes with one of 3Si’s tutors. They’ve been able to work on building their new language skills and use them with the locals of Sevilla.

The beautiful city of Sevilla has so much to offer and there is always something new and fun to do. On Friday we will say farewell to this amazing group, we hope they have really enjoyed their experience and perhaps we will see them return again. There is something for everyone here in this city!
